Carl Froch is scheduled to box back home (as reported by the Mirror) for the first time in three years on May 5 – if he fails to get a world title shot against Lucian Bute.
Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn is reported to have reserved the Nottingham Arena for the former WBC world super-middleweight champion’s next fight.
But Hearn is also still in talks with Canada-based Romanian Bute about a two-legged showdown with the IBF champion. If a fight with Bute is agreed, Froch will face him in Montreal, Canada, on April 14, then in England on July 28 or August 4.
Froch, 34, lost his WBC belt in a bruising 12 rounds against American Andre Ward last month.
Hearn said: “The more I talk to Carl the more May 5 becomes appealing.
“He would be fighting in front of 10,000 of his own fans instead of going to Montreal and April 14 is not a good date for Carl’s trainer Rob McCracken because of commitments to the Olympic team.
“It would be for less money, but it would give Carl the chance to get a convincing win in front of his home fans.”
