Schloss St. Emmeram Regensburg, Germany

Schloss St. Emmeram Regensburg, Germany

The beginnings of St. Emmeram Castle go back to the 8th century. A community of monks formed at the grave of bishop and martyr Emmeram, which flourished here until secularization in 1810. As early as the Middle Ages, the Benedictine monastery was regarded as an outstanding center for art and science. After the secularization and dissolution of the monastery as part of the postal compensation in 1812, the extensive building complex fell to the Princely House of Thurn and Taxis. Extensive renovations in the 19th and 20th centuries transformed the monastery into a princely palace, without destroying the monastic character.

The Princely Castle of Thurn and Taxis is nestled in a green belt surrounding Regensburg's old town and is only a few minutes' walk from Regensburg Cathedral, the Stone Bridge and the main train station. The castle cannot currently be approached by buses due to the St. Petersweg being blocked.
