Venue Information

Barcelona's opera house, the Gran Teatre del Liceu, was founded on the Rambla in 1847 and has continued over the years to fulfil its role as a culture and arts centre and one of the symbols of the city.

Today it is publicly-owned (by the Government of Catalonia, Barcelona City Council, Barcelona Provincial Council and the Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte) and administered by the Fundació del Gran Teatre del Liceu which, in addition to the aforementioned bodies, incorporates the Patronage Council and the Societat del Gran Teatre del Liceu (the old society of owners).

Directions

On Foot:The venue is in such a central location, the quickest way to reach it is by walking, which takes under 10 minutes from the city centre.

From Carrer de la Canuda, turn right onto Avinguda del Portal de l'Àngel and continue onto Carrer de la Cucurulla and then onto Plaça de la Cucurulla. Turn left onto Carrer del Pi and continue onto Plaça de Sant Josep Oriol and continue back onto Plaça del Pi.

Stay on the road as it turns into Carrer del Cardenal Casañas and take a slight left onto Pla de la Boqueria. Turn left onto La Rambla and right onto Carrer de Sant Pau.

The venue will be on the left.

By Car: The drive takes around 10 minutes from the city centre of Barcelona.

Head north-east on Carrer de la Canuda and turn left onto Avinguda del Portal de l'Àngel. Continue onto Plaça del Catalunya and turn left to stay on the same road. Continue onto Ronda de la Universitat, and turn left onto Carrer de Balmes, and left again onto Carrer de Pelai.

Stay in the right lane to turn right onto La Rambla, and the venue will be on the right after 600m.

By Bus: The 59 (red) and V13 (green) bus route both travel from Balmes - Pelai to La Rambla which is a two minute walk down the road from the venue. The bus journey takes 6-minutes over 2 stops and the buses run every 4 minutes.

By Metro: The closest metro stop is Liceu which is directly across the road from the venue. The station is served by the L3 line (green).

Parking:
The closest car park is Plaça de la Gardunya s/n which charges a special price of €8 for Liceu audicence members (six hours, starting from one hour before the begining of the performance).

Venue Information:

  • No photography, filming or recording is allowed in the Auditorium during performances.
  • Children under 5 are not admitted to performances not intended for child audiences.
  • Mobile phones and all kinds of alarms must be turned off before the performance begins and before entering the Auditorium.
  • Members of the audience may not place objects (such as coats, programmes, glasses or opera  glasses) on the balustrades of tiers and boxes. It is also forbidden to sit on the balustrades.
  • Members of the audience must sit in the seat indicated on their ticket. They may not change seats or move around during performances. It is not permitted to stand in the passageways in the Auditorium during performances.
  • Eating and drinking are permitted only in the bars. No food of any kind may be brought into the building (even into the anterooms to the boxes). Eating or drinking is not permitted in the Auditorium.
  • Members of the audience who do not have tickets to boxes with anterooms must leave all bags, rucksacks, umbrellas, helmets, etc. in the cloakroom.
  • For reasons of safety, bunches of flowers may not be thrown onto the stage. We suggest that single flowers be thrown instead.
  • It is not permitted to bring lamps, cameras or banners on sticks into the Auditorium.
  • Guide dogs for the visually impaired may be present in the Auditorium during performances.
